Paris, 4 December 2001.- Mr Javier Solana, High Representative for the CFSP and WEU Secretary-General will address the plenary session of the WEU Assembly on Wednesday at 15.00.
 
Mr Solana will give the context for the EU Laeken Summit that will take place on 14 and 15 December. At the summit, the European Council will adopt a declaration on the operational situation of the ESDP. The High Representative will report on the conclusions of the Capabilities Conference on European defence, which paved the way for the declaration in question.
 
He will also speak about the report he is to submit at Laeken on the challenges international terrorism presents for European security.
